"Wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed our GaperGuide while we were in Yellowstone a couple of weeks ago. The information was informative and presented in a very entertaining way. We thought it was hilarious that the guide made comments that followed our own comments and conversations (ex: "That ranger sure was nice"). I also liked that there was different info as you went a different direction on the same road.

All in all, a great product that I would highly recommend to anyone going to Yellowstone. "

"Wow! Your information was wonderfully on target. We made amazing stops we would never have saved time for without your Gaperguide assistance. Thank you. "

"I just want to let you all know that we really appreciate the hard work you put into the gaperguide. It was a huge help to us!! Before we arrived, I sat down with a couple who stay in Montana for a month at a time and they gave me 4 hours of information. Almost everything that they recommended, ya'll did too! Between the both, we saw so much. I think you are on the right path for success. I will promote it to everybody I talk to. If you ever want to do something like that in Florida, let me know. Thanks again. "

New Auto Guide for National Parks

Heading for a National Park tour this summer? Don’t go without a Gaper Guide! These portable guides have just been introduced for Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. The GPS enabled tour guide sits comfortably on your vehicle’s dashboard. As the GPS unit identifies where you are, it points out interesting facts, local history and stories of the legends of the national parks. So instead of trying to read a guide book as you make your way through the parks, this devise will act as your personal tour guide. The guide rents for $35 a day, or $20 for a half day and can be picked up in Jackson, Wyoming, or West Yellowstone, Montana. If that’s not convenient, the guides can also be delivered and returned by mail. The guides are available from May 15th to October 15th and must be reserved in advance at the Gaper Guide website:
www.gaperguide.com.

"We really enjoyed the GaperGuide! It is great how you make it interesting for adults and children. (Even the teenagers in our group thought it was cool!) Everyone in our group had some laughs and learned a lot of facts about the area. We really liked how the information was presented. We dreaded being part of a tour group- the GaperGuide allowed us the freedom to tour what we wanted when we wanted."

"The GaperGuide was fantastic. It was useful and fun. We ended spending 14 hours driving through the park and the GaperGuide kept us entertained the whole trip. We've already recommended the product to several people - a great idea."

Best of luck.

What's New in the West

Now drive Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks with Gaper Guide, a GPS unit that sits on your dash and describes 750 sites via your car’s stereo. Colter, a moose, narrates, while scientist "friends" pipe up on Old Faithful, Jenny Lake, and more. (307) 733-4626,

While driving from California to Boston a few years back, I spent a lot of time wondering what I was seeing out the window. There's so much time to digest information on a long road trip, and I really wished for a way to soak in the cultural and natural history of the areas we passed on our way east.

So you can imagine how excited I was when I read about GaperGuides, a GPS dashboard guide to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. The guide senses your location and plays local history, interesting stories, and fun facts through your car speakers. I imagine it's like being on an interesting tour without having to ride in an uncomfortable bus or sit behind loud talkers who take pictures of themselves flexing their muscles in front of every scenic outlook.

Next time you're in Grand Teton or Yellowstone national parks, ditch the maps and try a GAPERGUIDE. Available this August, the new GPS-enabled navigator—named after a local slang term for tourists—sits on the dashboard and uses your exact position on any of the two Wyoming parks' collective 378 miles of roads to select and play one of 700 prerecorded interpretive audio segments through your car's sound system. "The parks' roads are so simple, you don't really need to know where you're going; you just need to know what you're seeing," explains system developer Will Ferguson, 36. Along with partner Katie Lee, 27, Ferguson spent a year gathering the raw material for the guide and then hired a comic to write the script and actors to record it. With facts like "The Chapel of the Sacred Heart was originally named Our Lady of the Tetons, until church members figured out what tetons really means," you'll find it at least as entertaining as waiting for Old Faithful to spew. The two plan to expand into other parks, starting with Glacier and Yosemite next year. $35 per day; www.gaperguide.com.
